Spirited Away Review

21 Nov

I just watched Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi, or “Spirited Away” as it’s called in the US. I saw it in the Charles Theater in Baltimore..it’s rare to get an opportunity to watch an anime on the big screen, it’s truly an amazing experience. This was a spectacular film, and left me highly entertained and with a sense of wonder. I’ve never before been so thoroughly convinced such a fantasy world exists. The animation was extraordinary, the sounds were well used, the voice acting (dubbed) stellar. This is a MUST watch for anyone who enjoys films and cinema and especially anime fans. Ok..now its bed time..but wow..good film

I saw it at the International Film Festival in San Francisco earlier this year. It’s fabulous, isn’t it? Have you seen his other stuff?

I watched Mononoke dubbed once (hey I own the DVD, i may as well). It was bearable, but just barely.
Luckily I got a rip of Spirited Away subtitled (marginal video quality tho, but oh well). It was a neat movie, very trippy and neat, tho somewhat ambiguous.. I think I liked Mononoke and Totoro better..
(Tho this one is a definite DVD buy. now if only they’d fuckin’ release Totoro!!)
